The Abdul Latif Jameel Hospital was established by the late Sheikh Abdul Latif Jameel (1912\u20131993), founder of the diverse<\/a> international network of businesses which still bears his name, and will celebrate its 80th<\/sup> anniversary in 2025.\u00a0 After a lifetime of business leadership and philanthropy, Sheikh Jameel suffered a serious stroke which robbed him of much of his mobility.\u00a0 Unable to find high-quality, accessible treatment services close to home, he travelled as far as Europe to seek out the world\u2019s best rehabilitation support in the UK, Germany and Switzerland.\u00a0 However, he was well aware that not everyone confronting illness or injury was in a similarly fortunate position.\u00a0 A situation he resolved to rectify.<\/p>\n

Personal experiences inspired healthcare revolution<\/h2>\n

The journey from that initial idea to the state-of-the-art healthcare facility that exists today has been both rapid and inspiring.\u00a0 It began around 1990 on his return from Europe, as a desire to find a communal place where the recovering Sheikh Jameel and other people in similar situations could access healthy activities to restore their wellbeing.\u00a0 Discovering no suitable such facility existed, he drew on the energy and drive which had propelled him throughout his business career to establish one of his own.<\/p>\n
