Lienhard, the Abdul Latif Jameel Professor of Water and Food and the director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (<a href=\"https:\/\/jwafs.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J-WAFS<\/a>), has been elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AAAS<\/a>).<p><\/p>\n<p>The award recognizes Professor Lienhard\u2019s lifetime body of work and places him alongside previous winners including Thomas Edison (1878), Linus Pauling (1939) and Grace Hopper (1963). Four of the 2018 Nobel Prize laureates \u2013 James Allison, Arthur Ashkin, Frances Arnold and George Smith \u2013 are AAAS-elected fellows.<\/p>\n<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaas.org\/news\/aaas-honors-accomplished-scientists-2018-elected-fellows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lienhard, who has been recognized by AAAS<\/a> for his work on energy-efficient desalination within his <em>\u201cdistinguished contributions to thermal science and engineering\u201d<\/em>, will be honored at a ceremony in February 2019 at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Professor Lienhard said: <em>\u201cAAAS is one of the oldest scientific organizations in the United States.
