{"id":7917,"date":"2019-06-24T10:25:39","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T10:25:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.alj3.clients.lemonhq.io\/quick-reads\/abdul-latif-jameel-energys-frv-announces-5th-large-australian-solar-project\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T08:44:29","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T08:44:29","slug":"abdul-latif-jameel-energys-frv-announces-5th-large-australian-solar-project","status":"publish","type":"quickreads","link":"https:\/\/cms.alj3.clients.lemonhq.io\/en\/quick-reads\/abdul-latif-jameel-energys-frv-announces-5th-large-australian-solar-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Abdul Latif Jameel Energy\u2019s FRV announces 5th large Australian solar project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (<a href=\"http:\/\/frv.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FRV<\/a>), a leading global developer of renewable utility-scale projects and part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alj.com\/en\/energy-and-environmental-services\/energy-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abdul Latif Jameel Energy<\/a>, is to develop an 85 MWac solar project in the Australian state of Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was awarded through its subsidiary Winton Asset Trust with the support of the State Government in the Victorian Renewable Energy 2017 Reverse Auction Scheme aimed at supporting the achievement of the Victorian Renewable Energy Targets (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.vic.gov.au\/renewable-energy\/victorias-renewable-energy-targets\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VRET<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covering approximately 250 hectares, the 85 MWac <a href=\"http:\/\/wintonsolarfarm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winton Solar Farm<\/a> near the town of Benalla is due to start construction in early 2019. &nbsp;Once operational, it will supply enough electricity to power around 50,000 homes and deliver an annual reduction of 150,000 tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solar farm will create job opportunities during both construction and operation phases, including an estimated 150 workers required to build the plant, and the development of a local employment and procurement program that will create indirect economic opportunities for local businesses and the <a href=\"http:\/\/wintonsolarfarm.com\/community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">community<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2019\/06\/SA03_Body_750px.jpg\" alt=\"Winton Solar Farm\" class=\"wp-image-2797\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In line with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.vic.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Victorian State Government\u2019s<\/a> goal to strengthen community support of <a href=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/energy-and-environmental-services\/energy-overview\/\">renewable energy<\/a> projects, FRV\u2019s <em>Community Engagement and Social Benefit Sharing Plan<\/em> aim\u2019s to meet the needs of the local community and includes a two-year pilot partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/regenthoneyeater.org.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regent Honeyeater Project<\/a>, one of the most active volunteer conservation projects in Australia.&nbsp; FRV is also exploring support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsfg.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Benalla Sustainable Futures Group<\/a>, helping to deliver key aspects of their three-point plan to position Benalla as one of the first \u2018zero net energy\u2019 towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2833\" style=\"margin-right: 10px;\" src=\"https:\/\/media.alj.com\/app\/uploads\/2019\/06\/daniel-sagi-vela.jpg\" alt=\"Daniel Sagi Vela\" width=\"200\" height=\"340\"><\/td><td>Winton Solar Farm is FRV\u2019s fifth large-scale solar project in Australia since it entered the market in 2010, and the first in the State of Victoria. &nbsp;The other projects are Royalla (20 MWac) in the Australian Capital Territory;
