{"id":7796,"date":"2019-06-24T08:47:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T08:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.alj3.clients.lemonhq.io\/quick-reads\/solving-challenges-governance-crime-conflict-peace-recovery-j-pal-benefit-us-16-million-grant\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T08:43:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T08:43:19","slug":"solving-challenges-governance-crime-conflict-peace-recovery-j-pal-benefit-us-16-million-grant","status":"publish","type":"quickreads","link":"https:\/\/cms.alj3.clients.lemonhq.io\/en\/quick-reads\/solving-challenges-governance-crime-conflict-peace-recovery-j-pal-benefit-us-16-million-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Solving challenges in governance, crime and conflict, and peace and recovery \u2013 J-PAL to benefit from US$ 16 million grant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Two major initiatives from the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) are set to receive significant financial support after J-PAL and another research center, Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), were jointly awarded a multi-million-dollar grant from the UK government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two organizations received US$ 16 million from the UK Department for International Development to contribute towards three research programs on effective policies to promote peace and good governance, reduce crime, and support individuals and communities recovering from conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programs include J-PAL\u2019s new Crime and Violence Initiative, which funds randomized evaluations relating to crime and social and political violence. J-PAL\u2019s Governance Initiative, which among others aims to identify effective approaches to increasing citizen participation and political accountability, will also benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Chris Blattman, co-chair of J-PAL\u2019s Crime and Violence Initiative, said: \u201cThis grant sends an important message that investing in rigorous research is critical to finding solutions to challenges of governance, crime, and conflict.
