Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel is Chairman, Abdul Latif Jameel<\/a>, a collective of independent international, family-owned and diversified businesses, founded in 1945, by his father, the late Abdul Latif Jameel.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jameel, together with other members of the Jameel Family, is also a major investor\/developer of the <\/span>Anjum Hotel<\/span><\/a> in the Holy City of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. with 1,650 rooms in the first phase and a second phase (under construction) of 3 towers with 3,977 rooms.\u00a0 The Hotel offers a genuine Hijazi welcome to Hajj and Umrah visitors from across the world -uniting spirituality with hospitality while supporting and contributing to the continued growth of the local community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Jameel and the Jameel Family are noted philanthropists, continuing a tradition started over three quarters of a century ago by Mr. Jameel\u2019s father and the business\u2019 late founder, Mr. Abdul Latif Jameel.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Founder and Chairman of <\/span>Bab Rizq Jameel<\/span><\/a>, a job creation initiative in the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Jameel has helped hundreds of thousands of men and women improve their lives through work, with recruitment initiatives, microfinance programs, and other innovative projects tailored to providing opportunities for employment for both men and women in the Arab world.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a patron of the arts, Mr. Jameel supports <\/span>Art Jameel<\/span><\/a> (founded by his son, Fady Jameel), now one of the world\u2019s most significant arts organizations with a focus on nurturing artists and creative communities. Art Jameel\u2019s expert team and innovative arts and learning programs are anchored in the UAE at the <\/span>Jameel Arts Centre<\/span><\/a>, Dubai\u2019s contemporary museum, and in Saudi Arabia at <\/span>Hayy Jameel<\/span><\/a>, Jeddah\u2019s home for the arts.\u00a0 As a former trustee of The <\/span>King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts<\/span><\/a> and ambassador of <\/span>The King’s Foundation<\/span><\/a>, Mr. Jameel has worked with HM King Charles III\u2019s charities, including through the Jameel Houses in Cairo, Jeddah, and Scotland.”\u00a0 Other long-standing Art Jameel partnerships include those with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, home to the <\/span>Jameel Gallery<\/span><\/a> and a broad program that includes the <\/span>Jameel Prize<\/span><\/a>, the world\u2019s premier award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic traditions.\u00a0 <\/span>In July 2025, Mohammed Jameel was awarded the highest distinction of Commandeur, Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters) by the French Ministry of Culture, France\u2019s prestigious honors system which acknowledges those enabling and making considerable global cultural impact.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>In the same system, Fady Jameel, Vice Chairman, International, Abdul Latif Jameel was awarded Chevalier, marking the first father-son duo to receive the honor in its history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Jameel is also Founder and Chairman of <\/span>Community Jameel Saudi<\/span><\/a>, a Saudi Arabian foundation that operates a considerable suite of philanthropically motivated social, entrepreneurial, and economic development programs for individuals and the community in the country.\u00a0 Its focus is governed by six main areas of development \u2013 competency development, women empowerment, entrepreneurship advancement, climate change, community wellbeing, and humanitarian initiatives \u2013 with one main goal: to create pathways to economic independence and so actively contributing to the development of the nation and its economy. Initiatives include the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel Hospital<\/span><\/a> in Jeddah, established by Mr. Jameel\u2019s father as the region\u2019s first non-profit specialist facility for physical rehabilitation, and today a center for advanced therapies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Jameel is the Founder and Chairman of <\/span>Community Jameel<\/span><\/a>, an independent, global organization advancing science and learning for communities to thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n

A <\/span>Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/span><\/a> (MIT) alumnus, Mr. Jameel has seen Community Jameel develop a longstanding and deep collaboration with MIT, with support to four major centers: the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab<\/span><\/a> (J-PAL), whose co-founders Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, along with long-time J-PAL affiliate Michael Kremer, won the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economics; the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab<\/span><\/a> (J-WAFS); the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab<\/span><\/a> (J-WEL); and the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health<\/span><\/a> (Jameel Clinic) and the <\/span>Jameel Observatory\u2013CREWSnet<\/span><\/a>“.<\/span><\/p>\n

With MIT, Community Jameel has also created the <\/span>Jameel-Toyota Scholarship<\/span><\/a> for undergraduate students from Japan, Saudi Arabia and other countries in Asia and Africa (since 1994); supported and mentored entrepreneurs in the Arab world through an annual <\/span>start-up competition<\/span><\/a> (since 2005); and through MIT J-WEL pioneered innovative approaches to refugee education.\u00a0 Mr. Jameel is an MIT Corporation life member.<\/span><\/p>\n

Committed to improving healthcare for all, in addition to the Jameel Clinic at MIT, Community Jameel cofounded the <\/span>Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics<\/span><\/a> (Jameel Institute) with Imperial College London, to combat threats from disease worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Jameel Institute has been leading the critical modelling of the spread of COVID-19 and launched the Jameel Institute-Kenneth C. Griffin Initiative<\/a> for the Economics of Pandemic Preparedness to help governments model the economic and epidemiological impact of public health response to outbreaks of infectious diseases.<\/p>\n
