The A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/jameel-institute\/\">bdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (J-IDEA)<\/a> aims to tackle health crises, for example when epidemics of infectious disease such as Ebola and Zika break out, as well as carrying out longer term research into the factors behind them, such as climate change and population movements, that make health emergencies more likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A donation of about \u00a325m from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.communityjameel.org\/\">Community Jameel<\/a>, will enable Imperial to build J-IDEA as part of its \u00a3100m campaign to establish a new School of Public Health at its White City campus in west London. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/about\/leadership-and-strategy\/president\/about-the-president\/\">Alice Gast<\/a>, president of Imperial, got to know <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alj.com\/en\/our-people\/mohammed-abdul-latif-jameel\/\">Mohammed Jameel<\/a>, founder and chair of the foundation, when she was vice-president for research at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mit.edu\/\">Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/a> in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community Jameel has funded several institutes at MIT, including a clinic for machine learning in health (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jclinic.mit.edu\/\">J-Clinic<\/a>) and a water and food systems lab (<a href=\"https:\/\/jwafs.mit.edu\/\">J-WAFS<\/a>).
